Holiday Reset: Reconnecting Through Movement & Pilates

By: Rose Dombrow

The holidays are joyful, but let’s be honest, they can also be a lot. Between travel, social gatherings, endless to-do lists, and rich meals — it’s easy to feel scattered and disconnected from your body. That’s where mindful movement and Pilates come in.

This season, instead of waiting for January 1st to “get back on track,” give yourself permission to reset now—through intentional movement, breath, and awareness.

1. Move to Ground Yourself
Pilates isn’t about punishment or “working off” the holidays. It’s about coming home to your body. Even 15 minutes of movement—rolling through your spine, opening your chest, engaging your core. This can release tension and re-center your nervous system. Think of your mat as your quiet space in the middle of the chaos.

2. Support Your Body Through the Season
From long car rides to standing in the kitchen, your body is working overtime during the holidays. Pilates builds functional strength and mobility that help you move through it all with ease. A few gentle sessions can relieve tight hips, low back strain, and neck tension—those little aches that tend to creep up when routines change.

3. Breathe & Rebalance
Stress tends to shorten our breath and tense our muscles. Pilates brings focus back to the breath, helping you slow down and regulate. Try this mini reset:
Sit tall or lie down comfortably. Inhale deeply through the nose, expanding the ribs. Exhale slowly through the mouth, drawing the navel gently toward the spine. Repeat for five rounds and notice your body soften.

4. Create Ritual, Not Resolution
A “holiday reset” doesn’t have to mean restriction or guilt. It can simply mean making space for yourself! Rolling out your mat, moving with intention, and tuning into how you feel. Small, consistent moments of movement can restore your energy and help you enter the new year feeling balanced, not burned out.
